A Marathon Journey

Not one but two marathons in Honolulu.

It was December 2022 when I thought to myself, "I want to run a marathon." Mind you, I had never run or could even run a mile in my life! LOL! I was that girl who never liked P.E. class or anything related to running. I do enjoy the stair stepper at the gym, using it almost every single day, along with walking on the treadmill. But I was determined to challenge myself as a way to symbolically look forward to what was to come.

As life would have it, things didn’t go as I envisioned for 2024. Perhaps that influenced my time, but it’s okay; I still enjoyed the experience and told myself I’d do it again in 2024 and so I did.

In 2023, I decided to train. I started with Parkrun, a free 5K every Saturday morning, and then participated in various races: a 10K, a 15K, a Half Marathon, and finally, a marathon in December 2023 in Honolulu. As mentioned, my time wasn’t what I expected, but at least I finished.

In December 2024, I took 30 minutes longer this time… can I blame the heat and humidity? Haha!

And thanking my aunt for going along with me on this marathon journey.

"I dare you to train for a marathon, and not have it change your life."
